D's father was killed in May 2017 at the hands of D's own younger brothers (it has not been decided whether it was intentional yet or not). They were being driven by their father to their mother's home when he was shot while driving (http://kxan.com/2017/05/07/travis-county-sheriffs-investigating-homicide-in-northeast-austin/). Not only has he now lost his father, he's estranged from his brothers.
The struggle for/with his father began many years earlier in 2004. He was laid-off from his job of over a decade with the state of Texas when their IT work was subbed out to IBM. He opened his own IT business which subsequently shuttered and sent him into a tailspin of depression, suicide attempts and in-patient stays at a psychiatric facility. The boys witnessed this in their formative years which was terribly difficult.
D has been attending ACC Highland for the past two semesters but cannot continue because his car has broken down and is beyond repair. To be able to get from his grandparents' house in Northeast Austin, to ACC Highland and then to Barton Creek Square Mall by Capital Metro will not be possible because of the time and distance. He's still working however. He wants to finish school to provide the stability he hasn't known well enough. He doesn't care for a new or flashy car, just something dependable to get him to school and work.
Any amount you can spare will help him succeed and, in turn, be an asset to his community.
