Water for Life: Kamwai Village Borehole Project.

Greetings!

My name is Japheth Njukullah, a concerned citizen of Kamwai Village in Plateau State, Nigeria. Over the last few years, I have been concerned about the state of water sources and their implications on our community health. Kamwai is a very remote village in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau state, which, until recently, has yet to have access to internet, nor clean water. I spent most of my childhood/adolescent years in this village, and the only drinking and cooking water source was and is still from a small stream. In 2022, my family travelled to spend Christmas with my mother and the rest of my relatives, and we struggled to have sufficient water to shower and/or to drink. We would often have to wake up at midnight to queue to have enough water for the rest of the day. A recent trip has intensified the need for me to seek your support to raise funds towards drilling at least a borehole in the village.

Our community has struggled with unsafe sources of clean drinking water for too long. The stream water is contaminated with bacteria and parasites and many people, especially school children and the elderly, suffer from waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid as a result. Consequently, this has led to preventable death in some cases because of a lack of access to working and equipped medical centres.

To address this critical issue, I am launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for digging a borehole in our village. Doing this would improve health and well-being, reduce waterborne diseases, increase education access—less time spent queuing to get water—and reduce dehydration.
