Hello Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues:
I've recently been ignited to participate in a marathon and raise money for two VT not-for-profits. That ignition point came via multiple events involving addiction and substance use disorder, on opposite coasts. I know some of you have been deeply impacted by this. I'm playing catch-up.
Event # 1: A few years ago my long time friend Chip Piper's thirty something year old son Michael was dealing with some dental issues and became addicted to opioids through use of the pain killers. Michael never lost his dignity, but he lost everything else including, job, friends, home, and finally his life three years ago. Chip tells the story better than I do... Learn more here
Event # 2: The not-for-profit community conflict resolution center I work for in NV emerged from smart legislators ordering there to be services for anyone, no matter their ability to afford it. As we currently take a deep dive into working with organizations that serve Nevada's put-at-risk youth, the reality of who these good kids are, the troubles they face, and how hard these organizations work to support them, has struck me like a ton of bricks. Each of us was/is half a step away from a very different outcome in our own lives. I got lucky.
Last year Chip offered me the opportunity to support his huge 5 marathons in 5 days run to raise money for two sources of addiction related hope in VT. Earlier this year he told me he was running 10 marathons in ten days and offered me the opportunity again. I told him if he could run ten, I'd at least run some of it with him and raise some dough too. I'd like to offer you an opportunity...
My goal this year is to raise $2,620 - every nickel to go to Jenna's Promise and Turning Point Center of Addison County. See links for more information below. Will you please support these organizations that are doing great work in VT and New England for families like yours and mine?
That's $100 per mile, $25 per quarter mile. What do you say?
Funds Go to:
Jenna’s Promise in Johnson VT: We are focused on assisting our community in building a healthier and safer place to live, work, learn, and do business by reducing the burden of substance use disorder in our region. We seek to remove barriers for people seeking treatment. https://jennaspromise.org/
Turning Point Center of Addison County in Middlebury VT: We focus on cultivating hope, support, and success for all people affected by the challenges of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors, and we envision a future where stigma and stereotypes are overcome by an empowered community. https://turningpointaddisonvt.org/
Feel free to donate directly if that works better for you and please let them know about Chip and his efforts - Learn More Here
Mark’s Fundraising Gofundme Page: (Or donate directly to the organizations) or give directly to Chip who gives it all away too.
Thank you very much! Mark
