Double Lung Transplant and All the Things

Donation protected
Hi Everyone. Thanks for taking a minute to read on... Never done this one before.

As some may know, my mom and I have hit some tough times throughout life. Needless to say, that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. LIFE IS SHORT. I've always tried to appreciate every aspect of life and all that comes with it - the good and bad. Though, this one is tough to find appreciation...

About a year ago, my mom was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. (OH, just arthritis, no biggie... yeah, thought that too.) Unfortunately, the RA is an autoimmune disease that began attacking her lungs. The attacks on her lungs got so intense it landed her in the hospital a few times; eventually, she needed to have in-home supplemental oxygen to get by. Now she's on an oxygen tank fulltime. Since I was young her passions have been for cooking and dancing - neither of which she can do now! :(

As time passed she visited numerous specialists who made suggestions that she may want to consider a lung transplant. Reasonably so, this made her stressed and worried but figured it was precautionary. Well, if it was... it isn't now.

Earlier this month my mom was told that she will need a DOUBLE lung transplant to survive this crazy planet. Not one... two. Both. The most essential organs needed to live (besides your heart). It will be an 11-hour operation and will require months/years of rehabilitation to get back to doing things normally. Not to mention, the body often rejects foreign objects including organs from another human.

In order to get onto the organ donor registry, go through the operation, and wait for hope, she will need to first situate a caretaker for her recovery (PRAYING we get to the other side of this operation unscathed). After the surgery, social services require a human to be present with her at all times - meaning they will need to hire someone to be with her while Fred is working. (Wish it could be me!)

All-in-all the surgery + recovery + anti-rejection medication + caretaker to be present for 3 months to 1 year post-op, will cost somewhere around $18K - and probably more. This is after the insurance coverage on anything eligible. My mom and Fred are living back in CA with us being on the opposite coast not able to do much...

We are starting this with the hope of raising enough funds (or anything helps, really) to get my mama fine-tuned and back in good health so she can get back to cooking those yummy Puerto Rican meals and dancing around to elevate her spirits. Can't wait for that day to come!

Basically, ANYTHING helps and we truly appreciate it more than we can put into words. Life is not easy, I'm sure you can relate, but my Ma is a wonder woman and will conquer this one too. Your help will never be forgotten.

Love, light, God Bless.
