David's Go Fund Me                 My name is Laura Hesse. I am a classmate and friend of Carol (Lewis ) Hodges. She and her Partner Marge have been taking care of Carol's chronically  ill grandson David since birth. He was born at 28 weeks with Prune Belly Syndrome. He weighed 3 pounds 8 ounces. Carol was 50 years old at this time. David needed a kidney when he was 18 months old, or go on dialysis and possibly die.     Carol ended up giving David a kidney on Dec. 18, 2001. David then caught pneumonia, and stopped breathing. He was on a Ventilator for 2 and a half months and the kidney Carol gave him took a small rejection. It did last for 12 years, as David said they were the best years of his life!                                          At 13 years old David went on hemodialysis for 3 and a half years. He was so sick from dialysis, Carol took him every other day, 3 times a week and he'd be on dialysis for 3 and a half hours. Crying out in pain from leg cramps, throwing up, he'd go home and go to bed. When he was 16 they got a call that they had a cadaver kidney for him to get to the hospital right away. He got that kidney Nov. 3, 2016 and that kidney never worked from the beginning. So he went back to being in kidney rejection since. He's now in Acute kidney rejection again. So out of his 21 years of life he had 12 good years with Carol's kidney .The rest of the years he's been in kidney failure!        All David has wanted is a car of his own. He can't work and Carol and Marge can't even afford a good used car for him!!                                                 David has been in and out of the hospital since March, he's had 6 blood transfusions and lots of IV's with different meds. David takes 21 pills a day. He is very anemic, as Carol gives him shots for this. I am starting a Go Fund Me for David to get a car of his own. I want to give him something to look forward to and keep him wanting to fight for another kidney. David will be 22 on August 11, 2022 and Carol is 72. Carol and Marge never give up on David, and they don't want David to give up on himself.
