Festival Lantava (“gathering of friends” in Fataluku) is a multicultural arts & culture festival in the municipality of Lautém, Timor-Leste. It is held annually. The location changes: suco de Tutuala is one of the sites; other past locations include Lospalos Vila, Assalaino, Malahara, Com, etc.
Over three days the festival brings together 30+ artists, with concerts (various music genres), dance performances, poetry recitations. The are also workshops on painting, music, entrepreneurship. There is also space for camping is provided, so people from outside can stay.
The goals of Lantava and its significance are , to stimulate and promote talent and creativity of young people, especially those in remote/mountainous areas or communities that lack opportunity. To allow interaction & exchange between less experienced artists and established ones. To promote tourism and local products / tourism potential of the region (for example, highlighting the Foho Paichau, Nino Konis Santana Park, etc.). To animate (energize) the community with arts & culture; create space for youth expression.
The challenges Lantava Festival faces are funding / financial support is limited. Organisers rely heavily on community contributions; government support is promised but not always delivered. Other challenge is infrastructure & logistical issues may arise in more remote sucos.
