Donation Match-Legal Support for Detained Children

We can't know what we know about the reprehensible living conditions at the US border--particularly with regards to migrant children, and not do anything. We can't unsee, and  can't unread the reports explaining what is happening to migrant children--many of whom did not willingly choose to come to America--and not do anything. To know what we know, and not do anything is a betrayal of human goodness. 

Many have expressed the desire, and even the existential need to help--to somehow alleviate the suffering of those currently in the custody of the United States government. Many people have tried to provide basic sanitation supplies like soap and tooth brushes, but they have been turned away. As of yet, there are no national protests underway to express our concern. And for those that don't live in border states, it can be challenging to feel helpful from afar. It's also overwhelming and time-consuming to find an above-board organization that effectively uses donations to advance its missions. 

 The campaign co-founders, Erin Rackham, Sierra Penrod, and Bethany Lee, have worked hard to find sources that depict what is going on, and to vet organizations that we believe will best serve the interests of families at the border. After painstaking research of many worthy organizations, we have decided to run a donation match with KIND, Inc. We will match up to $4500 in donation to support legal defense for the influx of immigrant children separated from their parents at the US border. 

As part of their mission, KIND, Inc:

-provides medical, mental, and social interventions to immigrant families who have been through the trauma of separation

-provides legal services--and specially trained attorneys to detained children

-works with organizations to support parents who were deported without their children

-and advocates for policy shift that ameliorates the situation at the border and advocates for fundamental human rights for children at the border.
