Donating Hair to Wigs for Kids

Tax deductible
I'm raising money to benefit Wigs for Kids, and any donation will help make an impact. As many of you know, I lost my father to Pancreatic cancer in 2018. During his treatment, he lost all his hair.

Anyone who has personally been, or knows someone going through cancer treatment knows how emotionally, physically and mentally taxing it is. It can bring on feelings of a loss of independence, a loss of self, and a loss of identity.

Being able to provide someone with some physical appearance stability during their trying time is something that is super important to me, as I saw firsthand how it affected my father.

What started in the pandemic as an inconvenience, being unable to go get a haircut, soon turned into a dedication and a way to give back, remember and honor my father's struggle during his treatments. After it had grown a few inches, I decided that committing to growing it to a donatable length (12 inches minimum) was something that I absolutely wanted to do. I spoke to several people who had done it in the past who said it could take years to reach the proper length. The last haircut I received was in November of 2019 and I will be donating my hair on December 12, 2022, so needless to say, they were right on the money with their estimates. I decided that the minor inconvenience of shedding everywhere and needing to spend a lot more time caring for and washing my hair was absolutely worth it for someone to feel just a little more comfortable in their own skin while undergoing life-saving treatment.

I would absolutely encourage anyone who has ever thought about doing the same to do so and welcome any questions you have about the donation process, which is really quite simple.

More information about Wigs for Kids: Wigs for Kids, Inc is a 501(c)3 organization that creates hair replacements using human hair. We support children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, alopecia, trichotillomania and other medical conditions. Their work allows children to continue their active lifestyles without feeling insecure about their appearance. There is no cost for the hairpiece they receive; the organization relies on donations. Each wig costs $1,800 to make, thus that is my fundraising goal. They serve children 18 and under in age.

I will be seeding the fund with the first $200 and welcome donations in any amount and know that every dollar really does help a kid in need.

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause which means so much to me.
