Drop In Care Space

Donation protected

Dear friends, peers and the wider community,

Our goal to make the Drop In Care Space both accessible and inclusive and good news, we have found and been approved for a wheelchair accessible space!

We desperately need donations from the community to help us secure and move into this wonderful 140 sqm building that's wheelchair accessible with a double door entry, a kitchen, multiple rooms, an accessible toilet and a backyard to start a community garden!

We have come up against barrier and barrier to make this dream community space happen and because of unexpected lease costs and needing to negotiate to ensure the carpet was replaced to make the space accessible for wheelchair users, we need to raise more funds to make this happen.

If we raise enough funds, this also means:

the Care Space will have longer opening hours during the week.

a community space for hire with priority for individuals/groups who are marginalised by society

140 sqm home with a backyard.

Please help us make this happen!

Any amount, big or small, can make a difference and we appreciate your support. Please share the link with your friends or family or anyone you feel may want to support a peer run community space!

What is the Care Space specifically?

The Drop In Care Space is a community art and social hub in Adelaide where individuals can hang out or take a break, connect with others, enjoy art and social activities and find community, resources, tools and ways to look after our well-being. Did we mention we’re entirely run by queer, neurodivergent and disabled peers with lived experience?

We're a communal space for anyone 18+ with a specific focus on being an affirming space for individuals who identify as queer, gender diverse, neurodivergent, autistic, disabled or living with mental health struggles/mental illness.

We believe creativity, joy and community are a big part of looking after our well-being which is the Care Space is all about providing ways for individuals to build their support system, extend their chosen family and enjoy all the fun things like board games, community events and craft activities.

Sonny Jane, a queer, autistic and disabled peer support specialist, educator and consultant created the Care Space after navigating their own experiences with mental health, gender and neurodivergence and realising the need for places that exist where we can find community, feel less alone and find ways to help ourselves before we reach a point of distress or crisis.
