When I was a child, my family lived in downtown Los Angeles, where we saw countless people trying to survive on the streets. Many had nothing but cardboard or newspapers to shield themselves from the cold. My parents and I began handing out sleeping bags, and I’ll never forget the moment we saw every person in our neighborhood finally wrapped in warmth instead of shivering in the night. That memory showed me the power of even the smallest act of compassion.

Today, I carry that mission forward through Brighter Beyond. Wherever I go — in New Jersey, New York City, or Washington D.C. — I see homelessness growing before my eyes. I cannot turn away. That’s why I started this organization: to ensure that no one is left behind in the dark, and that everyone can find warmth, dignity, and hope.
