Donate Type 1 Diabetes Children's Book to local hospitals

My name is Andrew and I am a junior in high school. I am doing a project to raise awareness about Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). I have a personal connection to this cause because my sister was diagnosed with T1D seven years ago at the age of 5.

Living with a family member who has T1D affects our whole household deeply. When my sister was diagnosed, everything changed. We had to focus on checking her blood sugar levels, giving her insulin shots, and planning meals carefully to keep her healthy. It was tough emotionally as we got used to this new routine and worried about her health. Despite the challenges, we also became closer as a family, supporting each other through this new experience.

It is our family’s mission to raise awareness about Type 1 Diabetes in children. We worked together to write a book highlighting a child's struggle with T1D. We had a few goals: to show the difficulties children with diabetes face–specifically the stigma surrounding it, clarify misconceptions, and share words of hope with newly diagnosed children. Sometimes just knowing others are going through the same thing can make a big difference and help in the healing process.

Our book, Reese and the Wise Old Owl, tells a story about a rabbit who is diagnosed with T1D and experiences social stigma from friends, feeling left out and alone, and then meeting a wise old owl who helps in getting through the many hardships. The book also covers basic facts about T1D, how to support those who have it, and how to break down negative stereotypes. By spreading this knowledge, we hope to create a kinder and more understanding community where everyone feels supported and accepted.

Every dollar received will be used to print copies of this book, which will then be donated to local Pediatric Endocrinology offices and hospitals. Each book costs $15 to print. Our goal is to raise enough funds to print 150 copies of this book. Your support will not only provide valuable books but also bring happiness, knowledge, and awareness to kids during the early days of their diagnosis, creating a caring environment for their recovery and growth.

Thank you!
