Many of us were left numb, distraught and enraged by the unjust killings of Nigerian peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20th 2020.
We're setting up a 48-Hour Immediate Action Initiative to raise $3,000 for the victims of police brutality at the #EndSARS sit-in protest on Tuesday evening. All funds raised will be donated directly to The Feminist Coalition (a Nigerian non-profit organization disbursing funds to Security, Food, Water, Ambulances and many other things). FemCo are working closely with the End SARS Response Unit to support the injured protesters.
Nigerians from every nook and cranny gathered 2 weeks ago to peacefully denounce decades long of police brutality and human rights violations. After the government acknowledged the gravity of the youth-led movement, its freight response was to impose an immediate curfew and deploy the military to the protest hotspot - Lekki Toll Gate. Many protesters continued to wave the Nigerian flag and sing the National anthem as stray bullets were senselessly shot into the crowd.
The Toll Gate surveillance cameras were strategically switched off hours before the massacre but video evidence from protesters provides a very devastating look into the experience at the frontlines.
As of today, (10/21/2020) the government's retaliation left over 80 dead and hundreds more injured. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. Please donate whatever you can to help those who are wounded/ still recovering from this attack. Keep raising all the awareness you can & be sure to share/ repost this link !
