This October, Columbia Field Hockey will once again play our annual Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research Game.

Right before my freshman year at Columbia, my dad, Rick, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. We had already faced this disease once before — my uncle Tom passed away from it in 2015. Even through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, my dad made it to nearly every game that first season. He loved being part of this community and seeing how much the team meant to me.

When he passed away in 2021, the Columbia Field Hockey family surrounded me with incredible love and support. This annual game has become a way to honor him and to continue raising funds for The Broach Foundation, which supports Dr. Fred Lang’s research team at MD Anderson Cancer Center — leaders in developing better treatments and, one day, a cure for glioblastoma.

Over the past five years, we’ve raised over $20,000, including a record $10,500 last year, all going directly to research. Any amount you’re able to give — big or small — truly makes a difference.
