My name is Lucy Holzinger, and I am an alumna of the Columbia University Field Hockey team. Before my freshman year, my father, Rick Holzinger, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer. This battle was all too familiar to my family, as my uncle, Tom Bres, had passed from the same disease just five years earlier. During my first preseason, while I was trying out for the team, my dad was undergoing surgery in Texas to remove his tumor. Despite the challenges of chemotherapy and radiation, he attended almost every game that season, cheering me on alongside my mom. He would have continued to support me through my sophomore year if not for the COVID shutdown. Tragically, my father passed away from complications related to his cancer in the spring of 2021.

 Throughout his journey, my family placed our trust in Dr. Fred Lang, my father and uncle's surgeon at MD Anderson in Houston. He is also the lead researcher supported by The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research, dedicated to finding a cure for glioblastoma. Dr. Lang and his team are making significant progress in developing new treatment options, but their work relies on private donations. I am grateful that Columbia Field Hockey continues to support this cause that holds immense significance for my family and me. Over the past three years, we have raised around $10,000 for the Broach Foundation, and we are committed to raising awareness and funds to help find a cure for this devastating disease. We are thrilled to be putting on the fourth installment of the Concert Against Cancer benefitting the Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research!

Three years ago, Tom Bres, Meg's father, passed away from Glioblastoma at the age of 53. Anyone who knew Tom knows he was not the kind of guy to go down without a fight - enter The Broach Foundation.

The Broach Foundation is an incredible organization dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer, with a focus on glioblastoma. Glioblastomas are the most common form of brain tumors in adults. Less than 10% of glioblastoma victims live beyond 5 years of their diagnosis. The Broach Foundation is full of phenomenal people dedicating tremendous time and effort to changing this statistic.  

Whether you are able to attend the Concert Against Cancer or not, please consider donating to the cause. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated. The Broach Foundation will receive 100% of the proceeds from the Concert Against Cancer.
