My name is Tanya Bokas. I’m 50 years old, and I’m currently facing my second breast cancer diagnosis—a battle I’ve been fighting for the past 8 years.

I’ve already been through two lumpectomies because, at the time, I wasn’t ready for a mastectomy. But after two more rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, and now being told I’d need yet another, I’ve decided—I am ready. Ready to take the next step for my health and my future.

Through all of this, I’ve never stopped being who I am. I’m a full-time nurse, caring for others even on the days when I could barely push through my own pain and exhaustion. I’m a proud mother of six amazing children—three through adoption, but all mine. I’m the proud mom of Marines, and I couldn’t be prouder of the strong, beautiful daughter I’ve raised.

I’ve been carried through this journey by the love and support of my family, friends, and coworkers. My team at work has lifted me on days when I felt I couldn’t stand on my own. And my husband—my rock, my protector—treats me like a queen, even as he quietly carries the fear of losing me.

This journey has tested me in ways I never imagined, but it has also shown me the depth of love, strength, and resilience that surrounds me. Cancer has taken a lot from me, but it has not taken my fight, my faith, or my fire. Please help me make this dream a reality and help me get surgery.
