Support SEHAT: Students Leading the Way to Health Equity

Our Story

SEHAT is an Onalaska-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Ali Abidi and led by a team of students from Onalaska High School. It is a youth-driven initiative with a vision to reduce health inequity in our community. From day one, SEHAT has been about young people taking initiative, learning how to build something from the ground up, and gaining leadership skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Community Partnerships

Over the past few months, the SEHAT team has been building bridges with community leaders. They met with the Gundersen by Emplify Social Services team and the Mayo Clinic La Crosse Social Services department to learn about local health equity efforts and community needs. These conversations not only provided valuable insights but also connected students with professionals committed to reducing barriers to care.

Turning Ideas Into Action

SEHAT is now turning ideas into action. The team is raising awareness of ApolloHealth, a free mobile app developed by one of the team members, that connects uninsured and underserved patients to nearby clinics. They are also preparing to present at community events, introducing SEHAT’s mission and vision to the public.

Why We’re Fundraising

Recognizing that transportation is one of the greatest barriers to healthcare access, SEHAT is launching this fundraiser to directly support local organizations working to address this critical social determinant of health. In addition, a portion of the funds will be directed to the Onalaska School District and the La Crosse School District to strengthen their social services programs, particularly those focused on advancing healthcare equity for students and families.

How You Can Help

All donations will therefore not only help reduce barriers to healthcare access in our community but also support the schools that serve as a lifeline for many families facing health and social challenges.

Each step forward is both a meaningful contribution to health equity and a leadership journey for these students. By supporting SEHAT, you are helping to create a healthier community today while empowering the next generation of leaders to believe in the power of their voices.

All donations are tax-deductible (SEHAT Tax ID/EIN: 99-5055958). Together, we can make health equity a reality in our community and La Crosse County.

Please note: SEHAT is an independent nonprofit and is not affiliated with or operated by any particular organization or school district. This fundraiser is conducted solely by SEHAT, and all funds will be distributed based on community needs in the areas of health awareness and equity.
