According to USAFacts , about 888,300 people during fiscal year 2024, or 11.2% of Washington state's population, received SNAP benefits each month.
The Seattle Times predicts that Washington SNAP benefits will run out on November 1, 2025, if the government shutdown persists, which would result in hundreds of thousands of low-income Washington residents losing access to food benefits.
When federal SNAP funding runs out, more Washingtonians are expected to turn to food banks and pantries. These community resources are also facing historic demand in the midst of rising food costs. (source )
That's why I'm asking for your help to raise funds for North Kitsap Fishline.
Donating to Fishline helps provide our community with nutrition, housing, financial assistance, gifts for children, mental health counseling, and case management.
I will be collecting donations to send to NK Fishline through the New Year, at which point I will submit the total raised to my employer, who will match our donations up to $1,500. Fishline is registered a 501(c)3 non profit organization, which means the organization qualifies for Penguin Random House's Matching Gift Program
How will your donations be used?
87% of your donated dollars will be directly invested in Fishline's client programs and services. Here are just a few examples of the power of your gift and how it will help those in need:
- $50 will provide 70 families with eggs for the week
- $100 will provide Christmas gifts for a child
- $500 will provide a day of free mental health counseling
- $1,000 will help a family remain housed for another month
Thank you so much for considering helping out your neighbors this holiday season!
