Please help us support Baby Amalia and her family, asylum-seekers who are current clients of the Columbia Law School Immigrants’ Rights Clinic. Baby Amalia's family is in desperate need of funds to support themselves as they try to get back on their feet after two months of immigration detention in Texas, during which Baby Amalia suffered from grave illness and hospitalization. In detention, the family was subject to difficult and unsafe conditions, including lack of basic hygiene resources and medical treatments. The detention center even took away the medication that hospital doctors had prescribed to Baby Amalia. The parents have been unable to work for the past two months.
The family fled their country due to political oppression, threats, and harm from an authoritarian regime, and they are continuing to pursue their asylum case outside of detention. They are still awaiting work authorization in the United States before they can support themselves. Months of detention have left them without any remaining financial resources, in need of medical attention, and struggling to rebuild their lives. The family would appreciate any support you can provide--all funds will go directly to Baby Amalia and her family.
