Shepherd Cremer's Eagle Scout Project

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shepherd Cremer, and I am a Life Scout in Los Altos Troop 103 working to earn the highest rank in scouting: EAGLE. I have been working towards the Eagle rank since I first joined the San Carlos Cub Scout Pack 153 in 2012. I am also a 2021 grad of St. Nicholas Catholic School and will graduate this May from St. Francis High School.

I need your help to fund my Eagle Project costs of $6,439.

Every Eagle must complete a project to benefit a community organization, other than scouting. My project ideas led me to my alma mater to build a Gaga Ball pit. Gaga Ball is a fun game, similar to dodge ball, that most scout camps have, and also many schools. St. Nicholas had one for the younger kids, but I wanted to build a huge one for the kids on the other side of the quad. I wrote a project proposal and Mrs. Popolizio graciously approved my endeavor. Mr. Felix Rodriguez was very instrumental in the planning and execution of the work for which I am grateful.

After 300+ volunteer hours performed by students from Los Altos Scout Troop 103, Saint Nicholas Catholic School, Saint Francis High School, Bellarmine College Prep, and Silicon Valley Rugby Club, the Gaga Ball Pit was completed on August 25 and is in use today!

To earn my Eagle Rank, now I must raise the funds for the project and submit a project completion report to my Scout Council.

Every dollar donated will help me to meet my goal of covering the actual costs of building the Gaga Ball Pit. I was able to negotiate discounts from Sherwin Williams, Bruce Bauer Lumber, Mountain View Garden Center, and Los Altos Hardware (TrueValue) and came in just under my $6,500 budget:
  • Lumber = $670
  • Primer & Paint = $167
  • Steel Bracket System, Hardware, Rubber Flooring = $3,487
  • Sod Cutter Rental = $155
  • Gravel (fine and coarse) = $1,820
  • Vibratory Plate Compactor Rental = $119
  • Extra hardware and zip ties = $21
My own financial contribution to the project was buying a new Gorilla wheel barrow ($150) which I donated to the school. My parents provided snacks, lunch and water to my crew on the six work days ($535).

Gaga Ball is fun for everyone, as players of different ages, builds, and abilities are evenly matched so no one is ever “out” for long.

Thank you for considering a donation to this project and your support of Scouting.

Any and all excess funds raised will be donated back to St. Nicholas Catholic School.

THANK YOU TO
Mrs. Jan Popolizio, Principal
Ms. Stacy French, Vice Principal
Mr. Felix Rodriguez, Site & Facilities Manager
Mr. Ron Pellegrini, Alumni Parent
and Scoutmasters Jordan Spaulding and Michael Cremer
for their time and guidance.
All my hard working volunteers, and to my friends & neighbors who lent their shovels, wheelbarrows, and rakes!

Yours in Scouting,
Shep
