Hello, my name is Axel Johnson.
I'm 20 and I'm a local in Milwaukee. I moved away from Kentucky and my family about two years ago to find better opportunities than what my hometown offered.
My mother and four siblings currently experienced a terrible disaster involving an electricity failure in their laundry room, resulting in a fire that scorched the entire back area of their home. This has left their home exposed to the elements. They do not have a home with heating or cooling, and the repairs will not be made until the landlord is given what he’s owed by insurance. The electric cannot be restored without the area being repaired, meaning no electricity, no hot water, and no way to clean clothes in the back of the home. Every bedroom in the house is located in the affected area and is extremely hard to keep warm already.
This home is unsafe from experience of living there. It is old, it’s leaky, and the landlord turns a blind eye to every issue. I believe my family deserves a warmer, safer, cleaner home, but with only one source of income, they are counting their losses when looking into new places to rent.
On average, the rent in their area is about $800. Including the down payment, the average cost of starting over would be $1,600. I by no means expect to reach the goal, but everything and anything would help. Not only would it support finding a new place, but also everyday essentials to help my Mother care for my four siblings. I know the literally anything could would be more than appreciated and support from others would shine a more positive light on to the situation. Thank you so much for reading.
