Hello, my name is Mia Miller and my husband is Scott Miller. I am reaching out today to share his story with all of you with the hope of getting some financial assistance with what has become a life-altering situation that we were not at all prepared for.

In November of 2023, Scottie began having trouble with his vision. It started with his not being able to see at nighttime, and it progressed rapidly from there to where he lost his peripheral vision. He was told by a retinal specialist in Ft. Wayne that he had Rod Cone Dystrophy and that he would have low vision. In other words, his sight would be that of if he was looking through two straws.

Scottie continued to work and try to do the best he could. He had lost his ability to drive at this point, and we went to see a low vision specialist in Hartford City. Adjustments were made to our home and to his job in order to assist him with how to live with this condition, which there is no treatment for; it cannot be cured or reversed.

However, by March of 2024, his vision had deteriorated to where he could only see a little light and shadows, and it was no longer safe for him to try to get in and out of the plant in order for him to do his job, so he had to stop working.

We visited the retinal specialist again in Fort Wayne and were given the diagnosis that he was indeed going blind and would fully lose his vision entirely within 6 months.

This was a devastating blow for him, as Scottie has always been a hunter, golfer, Harley rider, fisherman, and loved watching sports and spending time outside. Scott has always worked and even joked about how he planned on working until he couldn't anymore, with no plans of retiring. He has always had a great work ethic and really enjoyed working.

The impact this has had on us as a family has been unimaginable. This is not something we were at all prepared for financially or emotionally. We are now struggling with our income being reduced drastically and nothing to fall back on. We have issues in our home that need attending to that we do not have the funds to take care of currently, and we have no savings whatsoever.

I am hoping that this GoFundMe will give us the help we need to be able to take care of the issues that are arising and to help us stay on our feet through this difficult time.

We can only hope that he will learn to adjust and be able to come to terms with being 100% blind and be able to continue on with life.

Scott is one of a kind, and for those that know him personally can attest to the fact that this is so very hard on him, and for those that don't know him, I hope you can find some compassion in your hearts for him.

Scott is rough around the edges but has a heart bigger than he is, and he is the rock of our family.

He is the grandfather to 5 amazing grandchildren and soon to be a great-grandfather in February.

This has altered our lives in so many ways that it isn't even possible to explain it. It has broken all of our hearts to see him this way, and we pray every day for a cure.

Thank you for taking the time to read his story. I hope you can find it in your heart to donate.
