Donate to Save the Luther Hotel from DEMOLITION
Hello! A group of us has formed the Palacios Preservation Association to exert every possible effort to save the 120-year-old Luther Hotel from demolition. The heirs of the deceased owner of the hotel have contracted to sell the hotel to a foundation that wishes to demolish the hotel. This would deprive Americans and many foreign hotel guests from enjoying this "Texas Treasure" hotel. The Luther is living history with chapters that document early 20th-century growth, WW II support roles, famous USO personalities, and US Presidential involvement. The Luther has been a strong supporter and venue for holiday celebrations, community events, fishermen, soldiers, and more.
We are private citizens who were fortunate to engage a legal team to help us with this effort. The legal team is providing their time and experience at no charge, but we need help with support costs, like court fees, courier fees, copying, and travel expenses. For our efforts to be successful, we need to raise this money quickly, as the litigation is already underway.
We have support from local, Texas and national preservation agencies, but to save the hotel, the District Court of Matagorda County has to act. Our efforts are to support this necessary litigation.
Any remaining funds after the campaign will go to the City By The Sea Museum in Palacios to assist with the Luther Hotel and other Palacios preservation projects.
