Lancelin’s dunes are under threat from mining, with more than 400,000 tonnes of sand being taken away in trucks each year to manage soil acidity on farms.
We acknowledge the importance of lime sand to farming but with almost 250,000 people visiting our iconic sand dunes each year and the cultural fabric of our community so strongly linked to the dunes we are asking the government to stop allowing mining in our dunes and use alternative sources.
We have made a lot of progress in this campaign, but we are now at a crossroads. Time is running out to save enough of our dunes to keep them magnificent, so we need to ramp up our activities.
This will mean targeted media and social media marketing, billboards, increased road signage and strategic and unrelenting lobbying of politicians in the lead up to the State election. At an estimated cost of more than $30,000.
While the committee do a lot, time constraints and work and family commitments mean some important jobs are not done as quickly as they need to be.
Your donation will help us pay professionals to carry out some of the work that needs doing and cover the costs of advertising in a multi-pronged campaign to build community awareness and apply pressure to politicians and business to take urgent action.
