Hello babies,

My name is Lois and for my birthday this year, I would love to raise funds for an organization that's very close to my heart.

In February, I volunteered for a week with ROOTS at the refugee camp in Dunkirk. This organization makes sure people on the move have access to water, a hot shower, WiFi, electricity, and a social hub to meet each other and play games.

ROOTS is one of the few lifelines left, showing solidarity where governments show violence. They offer basic human necessities where institutions offer nothing but cruelty.

I met the most incredible people during my stay and they're worth a million, but even a little goes a long way.

ROOTS relies entirely on donations to keep going, so every single euro truly matters, and is urgently needed.

The conditions at the camp were horrible. It was freezing cold, snowy, and muddy. The police make their pathetic little visits every now and then to do what they do best: (violent) evictions.

Despite all of this, the people on the move were some of the sweetest, funniest, smartest and most resilient people i've ever met.

Because of the EU’s inhumane, racist, and fascist asylum policy, people on the move are stuck at our borders, living in limbo — treated as less than human. Every day, children, women, and men are denied safety and dignity.

And let’s be honest: we — as Westerners — are not just passive observers. We are the root of this violence. The wars, the resource extraction, the arms deals, the climate crisis — they’re all driven or fueled by Western governments and corporations, for our comfort, our consumption, our stability. And when people are forced to flee because their homes have become unlivable, we slam the door in their faces.

This is not a “crisis.” This is policy. This is power. We've created the worlds deadliest border (yes, look it up) and it’s on all of us to stand up and resist.

Remember: THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU AND A REFUGEE IS LUCK
