My name is Carla Deveaux, and I am the Co-Executive Director for Representation Matters Foundation. For the last 5 years, we have given out free children’s books to the underserved areas of North Charleston, SC. We take a unique approach to childhood literacy by giving out books that either have characters of color or are written by authors of color so these children can see themselves in the books they read.
