After 12 years in the same home, my family is being forced to move due to circumstances beyond their control. My neurodivergent and disabled family is at risk of losing stable housing without immediate help.

My name is Jonnie, and I’m calling on our community to help my family secure new housing before early April.

Why We Need Your Help

My mom (Connie), my step-dad (James), my sibling (Mani), and their sweet dog Lulu have called their house in Simi Valley home for the past 12 years. Over that time, my parents have faced numerous challenges—physical disability, injuries, and ongoing mental health struggles—making it difficult for everyone to maintain steady employment simultaneously.

They've been incredibly fortunate to have a kind and understanding landlord who kept their rent far below market rate through all of life’s ups and downs. But sadly, their landlord passed away earlier this year, and now his family must sell the house. My family has been given notice to move out by early April.

While my mom just received a much-deserved promotion, she is currently the only member of the family with a steady income. James and Mani are actively searching for jobs, but my family is not financially in a position to buy the house or rent something new at the current market rate. Affordable housing programs have extensive waitlists, and we're on a tight deadline.

• James (Step-dad): A hard-working, resilient and gentle father who’s taken incredible care of my mom and sibling for years while taking care of his own mental health.

• Lulu (Dog): A sweet pup who has been a constant source of comfort and joy for the whole family and everyone she comes into contact with.

• Security deposit for a new home

• Moving expenses (truck rental, packing supplies, a dumpster, etc.)

• Temporary rent assistance while my family transitions into stable housing
