I am Sachel Walker and my childhood friend Judith Vernon-Crawford, who were raised in Montego Bay, St. James, and spent most of our pivotal years in the vibrant community of Cambridge, Jamaica. This offered us a foundation of principles, vibes, education and memories that gave us joy, hope and possibilities.
I am reaching out with a heavy heart and hopeful spirit. We have created this GoFundMe for my family, friends, neighbors, the local schools and persons in need who have lost everything in the aftermath of hurricane Melissa.
This storm tore through our parish leaving behind devastation, homelessness, and hunger. Many families are now without food, clean water, shelter, or clothing, and the local school — a safe haven for so many children — was severely damaged. Desks, books, and supplies were destroyed, and the classrooms that once echoed with laughter now sit empty and broken. They are in need of food, shelter, and basic sanitary supplies.
There is a risk of exposure to disease, abuse, and serious mental and medical health issues arising from losing homes and basic necessities and not having access. They need clean water, food, tents for temporary housing, and materials for rebuilding their homes.
I’ve been in constant contact with loved ones and community leaders, and the stories are heartbreaking — children expose to the elements even at night because they have nowhere to sleep, parents trying to comfort them with nothing but faith and prayer.
Yet through it all, the people of Jamaica remain resilient and full of faith. We believe that God can restore what was lost, but we also know He works through the hands and hearts of others. That’s why I’m asking for your help.
Your generous donation will go directly toward:
• Rebuilding homes and providing emergency shelter
• Food, clean water, and hygiene supplies
• Restoring the local school — books, uniforms, and materials for children
• Medicine and basic healthcare items for families in need
Every dollar will go straight to the community through trusted local contacts who are already helping families on the ground.
This cause means everything to me. I grew up among these people — they are my family, my neighbors, my teachers, my friends. My heart aches seeing their suffering, but I believe that together, we can be the miracle they’re praying for.
Please give whatever you can, share this link, and keep Jamaica in your prayers.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
