Support Jason Baker’s Journey Toward Recovery and Independence
On December 8th, 2024, Jason Baker suffered a life-altering stroke at just 44 years old. The stroke left him in a coma for several days and required multiple surgeries. He ultimately survived — but at great cost: paralysis on the entire left side of his body.
Since that day, Jason’s recovery has been incredibly difficult, marked by uncertainty and limited access to consistent care. Despite these setbacks, his determination remains strong. Every bit of progress he’s made has been through sheer willpower and minimal therapy. Unfortunately, frequent moves between care facilities — dictated by what his medical insurance would cover — have disrupted any stable rehabilitation plan.
Before the stroke, Jason was an active, athletic man who loved the outdoors. He worked outside and spent his free time doing yard work — not just for himself, but for others. One of his last kind acts was helping a neighbor clear thick blackberry bushes, a gesture he refused to be paid for because she couldn’t do it herself.
Today, Jason lives in a nursing home in Everett, Washington to be closer to family. But his daily life is challenging. He requires assistance just to get out of bed and into a basic wheelchair, which he cannot operate on his own — even to use the restroom. His insurance does not cover the specialized equipment or therapies he urgently needs, and with his employment ended, so too will his benefits. While he is applying for long-term disability, the process is slow, and with uncertain government cuts to Medicare and similar programs, there’s no guarantee of long-term support.
Jason’s ultimate goal isn’t just to walk again or regain use of his left arm — it’s to reclaim his independence, return to the community, and support others facing similar battles. His story isn’t just about recovery. It’s about resilience, compassion, and the will to keep going even when the odds are against you.
