Support Paul Washington – A Lifelong Mentor, Now in Need of Us

If you’ve ever had someone in your life who showed up just when you needed them most—offering wisdom, encouragement, or simply being there—you’ll understand why I’m asking you to help us support my cousin, Paul Washington.

Paul has been that person for me more times than I can count.

When I left home for college in a new city, with no family nearby, Paul stepped in as a mentor. He listened, encouraged, and reminded me that I wasn’t alone. Years later, when I moved to New York after graduating, he continued to check in—still showing up, still reminding me of my strength.

That’s just who Paul is. Quietly dependable. Unfailingly kind.

A selfless giver of time, energy, and love.

Today, Paul lives in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he serves as one of the few Black male teachers at the local high school. He’s not just an educator—he’s a powerful example for the young people he teaches. He also coaches the school’s chess team, helping students build confidence and strategy both in the game and in life.

But now, Paul is facing some serious health challenges—and this time, he’s the one who needs us.

Just two weeks ago, Paul was hospitalized for congestive heart failure. Before he could fully recover, he was readmitted with kidney failure and is now undergoing regular dialysis. He’s in his early 50s, a former college basketball player who has always lived a reasonably healthy life—but these back-to-back diagnoses have taken a major toll.

He will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.

We’re raising $3,500 to help Paul cover his basic living expenses—rent, food, and medical needs—so he can focus entirely on rest and recovery without the added burden of financial stress.
