Hi! I am fundraising to supply resources for ICE detainees and their families. My mom has been volunteering outside Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in Newark, NJ with a group of organizers, volunteers, and activists. The group provides meals, emotional support, legal resources, and transportation for families who are visiting loved ones in detention. These families are heartbroken and scared. Visitors have to wait outside for long periods of time, often with very young children in order to visit detainees. The conditions in these detention centers are horrible. My mother helped one man who was released last night and he had lost 40 pounds in 3 months because the food is inedible.
We are looking for monetary donations so that volunteers can provide food and transportation for visiting families. These funds will also go towards detainee commissaries so that they can call their family members and purchase edible food such as ramen packets.
We try to find volunteers to pick up and drop off families but in the case we cannot, we provide ubers for families with young children, often single mothers with infants. Here are examples of the prices of resources we seek:
Box of hot coffee and hot chocolate for visitors: 25.99 for coffee box 26.99 for hot chocolate box
Pack of 4 Ramens at Delaney Hall Commissary is around $10.00
Uber price average ranges from $40-60 depending on distance.
Calls to family members are expensive and so important for the wellbeing of detainees. Funds for the commissary will also supply phone calls.
We appreciate anything you can give. If you would like your donation to go towards one of these resources specifically please leave a comment with your donation (ex: food, beverage, commissary, or transportation)
Thank you.
