My name is Jamie and I'm reluctantly creating this GoFundMe to try to help finance remodeling my daughter's newly bought old trailer. Air quality and a leaking roof and all that comes with is my immediate goal to tackle.
My middle daughter bought a trailer for $500 to try to give her and her two-year-old son somewhere to live, and it's been a bit of a money pit. I do all the work on it myself or can do all the work that needs to be done, but I haven't been able to work much lately due to some health issues.
My daughter and my grandson are not living in the best of situations, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. She bought this trailer about a year ago and was hoping to move into it, but I came to see it to give my opinion. The roof leaked, there was no finished floor, and the paneling on the walls needs to be replaced. Because of a multitude of leaks due to the last owner taking any curvature out of the roof and making it completely flat, now water puddles and leaks in. I've put tar on the roof, and I think I've got it stopped except for the perimeter leaks, which are happening because they put dirt by John and didn't overlap any part of the roof over it, so water seeps in.
The furnace needs to be replaced, and the actual trailer isn't connected to the sewage system that it should be. I'm also needing to get the old insulation tested to see if it has asbestos in it, as well as take out any drywall or insulation in the ceiling and walls that may have been damaged by the water leaking in. These are all things I'm fully capable of doing, but because of some health issues I've been having the last few months, I haven't been able to work as much as I need to finance what I need to finance.
When I got into this, I promised her that I would remodel it to make it safe for whoever lives in it, but it's been a bit of a money pit. That being so, I would still like to keep my word to my daughter, but this might be the only way I can get a little help. I'm not asking a lot. I've put about $3,500 into this, and now it's getting to be where I can almost afford to do the work, but financially I've only been able to work 20 hours a week, and I spent the rest of my money trying to get my license back to speed up the process.
It took a lot to get me to swallow my pride and ask for help, but closed mouths don't get fed. Anything would help. I've worked cash for the last basically 20 years, so I'm unable to pull any sort of loan. Hopefully, I can get help from the kindness of your hearts. Anything short of ridicule would be appreciated, even if it's a few dollars or a kind word.
I'm almost 3 years sober, and it took that long for me to learn to swallow my pride. Also, anyone needing help fixing things around their own home, feel free to hit me up because although I would need a ride there to fix it and home afterwards, I have the knowledge and ability to do most things. Doing charity work has been a huge part of my life of sobriety over the last 3 years.
Also, I do estate sales with some really good people, and if there's something that someone's desperately in need of as far as clothing, bedding, towels, or even small appliances, I may be able to help and would be happy to do so. So again, if there's something someone's in need of, please just ask. The worst that can happen is I can say I don't have access to that right now, whatever that may be.
Also, anyone in early recovery from whatever substance, please hit me up even if it's just to talk to someone in a time of need. I'll have 3 years on June 13th of this year, and a big part of my sobriety is counseling others when they're at risk.
Thank you again to anyone who can help. Building supplies of any type donated would also be greatly appreciated. Anything like rubber roofing, 2x4s, sheets of drywall, anything really would help me as well. My only goal here is to expand my network and keep my word to my daughter and my grandson. I'm not expecting results, but hopefully, I'll be blessed somehow. Thank you again for any help or even a kind word. Just know every bit of this will go towards fixing something in this trailer for my daughter. I'll be posting more pictures shortly, and God bless anyone for anything they can do to help me. Thank you. Anything helps things like building supplies and even gift cards for places like Menards, Home Depot and Lowes are welcome too.
