Our Legion Hall is over 50 years old with the main activity areas being on the second floor. Although a switchback ramp has provided some access instead of stairs it still may require strength and stamina that our aging membership may find challenging at this time. Potential embarrassment is avoided by just not going any longer. The LIFT will provide the mobility option to get our Veterans upstairs to enjoy the activities and the at home feel that our legion provides to them with each visit. Your donation no matter how big or small is much appreciated by our Veteran Community especially for those that have been rate 100% disabled. This LIFT is made possible only by your generosity-Thank You!

Our History-

The American Legion is the world's largest veterans' organization with membership honorably discharged from active duty in the US Armed Forces after 1914. Founded by Four Allied Expeditionary Forces officers on the line in Feb 1919 while still on active duty in Paris, France. Those founders Col. Theodore Roosevelt Jr, Lt Col George S White, Maj Eric Fisher Wood and Lt Col. William J Donovan sought to bolster soldier morale during the post armistice period. The Legion was incorporated by Congress on 16 Sept 1919. By 1946 had 3,325,000 Legionnaires and holding at 2.2 million at the turn of the century.

The American Legion, Post 86, in Blaine Washington was established 22 October 1924 with the mission of providing support and aid to Veterans who had served in The Great War that now resided in Whatcom County, WA. Often referred early on as the Peace Arch Post as it was only miles away from the Canadian border of British Columbia. This local post has served Veterans for more than 100 years and now supports a robust American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion Squadron now boasting 500 strong and still growing. Annual membership dues are $50 annually with Vets over 80 being waived of any dues for life.

As the years passed and more programs like American League Baseball and Boys-Girls State were created to now support not only the Vets but the communities they lived in the membership grew with the additional ranks who returned from World War II, Korean and Vietnam.

Now we have the younger vets joining from the First Gulf War and the Global War on Terrorism (GWAT). Meanwhile the Cold War Era, Vietnam and First Gulf War Vets are pushing 70 and 80 plus years old.

If you, your parents, spouse or grandparents served you could join one of the groups under the Post 86 roof. Inquire between after 5PM 7 days a week to see if you qualify!
