Donate to Lift the Burden for Isaac and Linda
Donation protected
This past September was the beginning of a traumatic experience for our family in Uganda. My brother in-law, Isaac and sister in-law, Linda were wrongfully taken into police custody for a crime that we believed they had not committed. At first, we did not believe that they could even be charged, what evidence was there? We soon came to find out the depth of the injustice that would take place as they were charged without evidence and transferred to a high security prison. During this time family and friends worked together to pay for the best lawyers and create a fund for bail, however, they were refused bail. We were told it was possible their case would be heard in a month, so we waited, hoped and prayed. The court date came and we learned their case was not heard. This process continued month, after month, after month. When we realized the police system would not deliver justice we petitioned the Office of Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) which is the institution in Uganda mandated with prosecuting Capital Crimes as these allegations were a capital offence, after months of investigations, the ODPP did not find any evidence and requested the courts to dismiss charges. We were told the next date for their case to be possibly heard was April 29, that was when we received the best news ever, the case was closed and they were released!
I felt compelled to start this fundraiser because at this time, Isaac has the weight of sending his children back to school in a few weeks, not only his own but various family members (a total of 11 children) that he has supported financially for many years. Linda has also expressed to me that she would like to go for professional counseling. I would like to ask for support in achieving these goals so that the financial burden could be lifted during this time for them.
