The Libertas Center for Human Rights was founded as a volunteer program out of Elmhurst Hospital's Emergency Department to provide services to survivors of torture in New York City. With grant funding in 2010, we were able to open a dedicated space for our community healing center. Over the course of our 14 years in operation, we have provided comprehensive medical, mental health, social, and legal services to our clients, many of whom are seeking asylum in the United States.
Our work is vital because no one should face human rights violations due to their identity or sociopolitical beliefs. We are committed to fostering a New York City where everyone can live healthy, confident, and hopeful lives.
Many of our clients are struggling to meet their most basic needs. Donations will directly support the provision of essential services, including food, transportation, clothing, emergency cash assistance, and other critical operational expenses.
