Meet Jennifer LaRose, a cherished school crossing guard who has lovingly served her community for 36 years. Nine years ago, her world changed when her strong and lively mother, Sandy, was diagnosed with dementia. Jennifer courageously stepped up as Sandy’s sole caregiver, even bringing her along to her crossing guard job every day. Despite the challenges, Jennifer ensured her mother felt loved and cared for until Sandy’s passing three years ago.
After losing her mother, Jennifer faced a series of unexpected health battles. A sudden hospitalization revealed blood clots in her lungs, and further tests led to a stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis. While navigating this news, Jennifer had to leave the apartment she had shared with Sandy for years. Despite the upheaval, she stayed resilient.
Jennifer’s journey took another turn when she was diagnosed with stage 3C endometrial cancer, which required an immediate hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and eventually a mastectomy. Along the way, she also endured gallbladder surgeries—all while grappling with homelessness and car troubles.
Yet through it all, Jennifer has held on to her optimism and infectious sense of humor. Now turning 60, she’s finding her footing again. Thanks to the kindness of a supportive couple, she’s renting a room and finally experiencing hope and stability.
This campaign is to help Jennifer repair her car so she can keep her crossing guard job and work toward returning to full-time employment. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, and any contribution will help her continue moving forward.
PS: If you know of a licensed mechanic in the Oak Park, MI area who might be willing to help, their contact information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for being part of Jennifer’s story!
