Hello, my name is Bonita, and I’m reaching out with a humble heart to ask for your help during a critical and painful season in our lives.
In 2023, I filed for disability due to worsening health problems, but I didn’t have health insurance to support my claim with medical visits. With no other choice and no help to cover bills, I found work driving the student shuttle at North Carolina A&T State University. Though my body was already struggling, I was determined to push through.
From the very first day, my job made accommodations due to my limited mobility. I had to physically move my foot between the gas and brake pedals with my hand just to drive. I continued this way for two years, forcing my body to perform tasks it could no longer handle. I loved serving the students, and they loved riding with me—but behind the wheel, I was silently in pain.
Over time, walking became difficult, and the pain in my shoulders and spine made even sitting unbearable. I fell multiple times—once in my shower, once in the breezeway outside my home, and once at work. Still, I kept going because I didn’t have anyone else to help cover my living expenses.
Through this job, I was finally able to get health insurance, and doctors diagnosed me with:
*Severe vertigo
* Debilitating migraines
* Advanced degenerative arthritis throughout my spine
* Tightened nerve openings at the top and bottom of my spine
* High blood pressure in my brain—something I didn’t even know was possible
* Early signs of glaucoma requiring urgent eye surgery
I’d also been pleading with my landlord for over a year to address the worsening mold problem in my home. She never responded.
Then, on March 31, 2025, I woke up and had completely lost hearing in my left ear. After several doctor visits and an MRI to rule out tumors (due to my family’s cancer history), I was diagnosed with profound hearing loss. The damage is permanent—no surgery or hearing aid can help.
Now I live with constant ringing in that ear. Loud noise causes physical pain, and I struggle to determine where sound is coming from. These symptoms frequently trigger vertigo episodes and severe migraines, making it dangerous for me to drive or even function safely on my own.
Because of this, I had to take FMLA leave from my job—but it’s unpaid, and as a result, I fell two months behind on rent.
On July 30, 2025, we received an eviction notice.
But I’m not alone. My daughter-in-love and six GrandBlessings moved in with me to help. Even though she has serious health issues of her own, she has been my rock. She cooks, cleans, and supports me when I can’t stand or care for myself. My children have become my caregivers—feeding me, cleaning, and helping me survive when I no longer can do it on my own. And they have done it all without complaint.
My vehicle with third-row seating—large enough to fit all of us—was repossessed after it broke down. I had never missed a payment before, but between medical costs, unpaid leave, and rising expenses, I just couldn’t keep up.
After doing more research, we now believe that both my hearing loss and my grandson’s mysterious episodes may have been caused by prolonged mold exposure in our home—the same mold my landlord refused to address.
We are in desperate need of emergency assistance to:
* Relocate to a safe, mold-free environment
* Cover my medical bills and the eye surgery I urgently need
* Replace essential transportation for our multigenerational household
* Cover basic necessities like food, hygiene, utilities, and supplies for our children
We are not a family that asks for help easily. But we are facing homelessness, declining health, and unimaginable stress. If you are able to give, know that every single dollar will go directly toward keeping our family safe, healthy, and together. And if you’re unable to give, please share our story or keep us in your prayers.
With deep gratitude and love,
Bonita and Family
