Please consider supporting my brother and his family in time of need. Last week, our family vacationed together for the first time since my brothers and I were children. It started off to be perfect with guitar sing-alongs to cooking yummy recipes to pool Olympics.
Mid-week everything changed forever. My youngest brother Josh became violently ill in the middle of the night. He vomited blood and we sent him by ambulance to the hospital. Hours later, they discovered obstructed bowels and he had sepsis. His organs were failing and we were told he may not make it. He was flown in a helicopter from the hospital in Myrtle Beach to MUSC Health in Charleston, SC to have access to better care. They put Josh in a drug-induced coma and a team of doctors, surgeons, and specialists collaborated together for days.
Treatment included dialysis, emergency surgery in the room to open his abdomen in order to investigate and figure out what was happening. They found a mass attached to his colon and dead tissue on his organs. He was in such critical care that operating on the mass then was risky. He was left open for two days as the doctors worked to stabilize his vitals, getting Josh stronger for surgery. Monday night, they operated. They had to remove his entire large intestines and replace it with a colostomy.
Josh’s small intestines are also diseased, but they were not able to do anything about that at the moment. We are praying for him to heal now that the mass is gone. We are waiting on biopsy results.
Josh remains in critical care fighting for his life at MUSC Health in Charleston, SC. He is supported by his love, the mother of their three children, and my parents. His children, ages 12, 6, and an infant are back in Bel Air, MD with me and the help of other family members and friends for the time being.
The cost of food, lodging, and hospital bills have already exceeded well beyond what the family can manage. PLEASE consider supporting Josh and his family during this scary journey. Please pray for him and his family. Fight Josh fight!
