Hi, I'm Brayndi Aguilar, the sister of Joey Runyon. Joey Runyon was at a friends house when a faulty gas line blew up in his face sending him through the ceiling from the 2nd story of said house on top of his friend. Joey jumped into action and got her out of the house, then had ran back into the burning house to also make sure that his dog had also got out. When in the middle of a devastating tiny-home fire here in Wilmington, one man, Joey Runyon jumped straight into action without thinking twice.

He didn’t just save one life.

He saved two — a woman and his dog — dragging them out of a burning home while flames burnt through everything around him.

And now, while they are safe because of him, Joey is in the burn unit fighting for his own life with severe burns. He is literally paying the price for his bravery.

Whatever people may say about Joey… whatever mistakes he’s made… whatever struggles he’s faced… today, this community needs to recognize one thing:

Joey Runyon is

A real one.

A hometown, heart-driven, selfless, courageous hero.

He didn’t ask for praise.

He didn’t think about himself.

He acted out of pure humanity, pure love, pure instinct to save another soul.

And because of that, a woman is alive. His dog is alive. A family isn’t grieving a death right now.

Our town talks a lot about strength and community — well, this is what it looks like. A man giving everything he has to protect someone else.

So today, let’s lift Joey up.

Let’s honor him.

Let’s pray, send good energy, share his story, and recognize him for what he did.

Continue Praying for Joey as he's in critical condition and will have a long road of recovery ahead of him Joey was at first against a go fund me account because he doesn't feel like he should be accepting money for doing the right thing , but after talking with the family, he does agree that he could use the help to get himself back together and to get the medical supplies that he will need. Also, getting back and forth to all the new appointments and specialist that he's going to need with this long road of recovery.
