In 1997, Ryan was playing bass in a funk band with a guy Rachel's best friend was dating at the time. She had an inkling that the two would hit it off, and they certainly did. Shortly after college, Rachel and Ryan married on a spectacular afternoon in the late fall. From there, they created a beautiful family together and a partnership that spanned three decades. It is with utter heartbreak, we said goodbye to Ryan this week after a grueling battle with a complicated and quick moving cancer.

Just a few short weeks ago, Ryan took ill with a set of symptoms that confounded the doctors. Sadly, the very rare type of lymphoma that was behind his illness carried with it a complication that supercharged its aggressiveness. For the past six weeks, Rachel has remained steadfast by Ryan’s side, day and night, through his time in and out of the ICU and throughout a valiant attempt by the doctors to combat not only the cancer, but the HLH complication. Her resolve, strength, and devotion has been incredible to behold. Along with the children, she held vigil by his side through to the end. Now, we ask Rachel's community to support her and the kids through the next chapter of their family as they grieve the loss of our dear Ryan, and continue to manage the demands of their lives, the medical bills, funeral arrangements, and college costs.
