Our story:

“No one should be homeless! But several years ago, my husband and I found ourselves part of the homeless population. We had lived in a one-bedroom apartment for many years on a tree-lined block, it was beautiful. Unfortunately, fate had it that we both became unemployed simultaneously. So, there we were packing our apartment, totaling forty bags. All the furniture we bought was left behind. After days of searching for housing, we were able to find shelter with friends who were residing in a vacant building. After a few months, we gained employment and started to save. Eventually, we had enough saved for a down payment on a house, where we live today. When we received the keys to the house, I held those keys in my hand the entire train ride home, looking at the Hudson River, what an emotional train ride.

Unbeknown to me at the time that was a pivotal moment in my life because it was the first step towards being the change I want to see in the world. What started as merely a job, became my passion and career. As a public servant for nearly two decades, I have successfully opened and operated shelters in New York City. Mostly importantly, more than three hundred individuals received permanent housing. Through our personal and professional experiences, Homeless Remedies was founded. Our logo (the hand with a key) was derived from an unforgettable train ride, with me holding my house keys in my hand. Via Homeless Remedies we have risen from homelessness to helping the homeless. And, as of 2021, Homeless Remedies has been the driving force in my life.
