"Meseret is 39 years old and a Tuberculosis survivor since 2013, following treatment at St.Petros Hospital in Addis Ababa. She is living with her two children, she is a single mom and she is walking with support of crunches. Due to this she has faced several economic challenges with her children to survive. As a result she is in need of treatment to improve her health status, nutritional support and food packages."
"Ato is 42 years old and a Tuberculosis survivor since 2014. But faced several challenges after TB treatment, as he has been paralyzed and can't walk and move, using pampers, and catheter. Due to his life in bed for a long time, he has developed wounds in five (5) places in his body. His wounds had been dressed 3 times per week."
Dear friends and family,
As part of my Master’s in Global Health, I am conducting research on tuberculosis (TB) in Ethiopia and will be living in Addis Ababa for the coming month.
While in Addis, I will also do volunteer work with TB survivors. Nearly 60% of TB survivors continue to live in poverty, even many years after completing treatment. Many are unable to recover from the financial burden of treatment costs or return to their pre-TB levels of income and employment. Residual physical impairments, stigma, and difficulties in rebuilding business relationships are among the main reasons for this.
To support my volunteer work, I am raising funds to provide essential items such as wound care materials, catheters, diapers, and food packages for TB survivors in urgent need.
Your support would mean a great deal—every euro counts! I will personally ensure that all materials are purchased and delivered directly to those in need, and I’ll keep you updated on my experiences.
Thanks a lot!
