As you may know, Vince was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016. Late in the summer of 2019, it came back in his liver. He underwent chemotherapy, and in August 2020, it was resected with clean margins. Unfortunately, it came back again in July of 2022.
Since last summer, Vince has missed a lot of work. The cancer is in his bile ducts. In addition to a round of chemotherapy and countless appointments with the team of doctors he sees, he's had several stent replacements. He currently has external drains, which limit what he's able to do.
Vince is the primary breadwinner and carries the family's health insurance. His job has been flexible and working with him, but he can only work one to two days a week. He will soon need to take a less physical position, likely involving a decrease in pay.
At this time, there aren't a lot of treatment options. Vince was supposed to start a new chemo drug last week but wasn't well enough to take it. While he's hopeful that another round of chemo will give him more time, he will likely have to go on total disability soon.
Five weeks into 2023, the family faces $60,000 in potential uncovered medical bills. I want to take a little bit of the financial stress off of Shannon and Vince. I'm not hoping to raise enough to cover medical expenses (although that would be cool!) but rather to help with day-to-day expenses. I want to make sure that Kate can continue her riding and snowboarding lessons and that if Shannon feels too overwhelmed or tired to cook, she doesn't have to think twice about ordering takeout.
Please help me show the Steffens family a little financial love and support. I know that a gift of any size will be a blessing and encouragement.
