Donate to help the Harvey Family recover after workshop fire
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Brent and I am fundraising for our Neighbors, Ken and Christine Harvey and Family.
In the early morning of September 3rd, 2024, a fire ripped through the family's workshop, burning up the building, as well as all the tools, supplies, and tractors inside. Their family's pet dog Bailey also died in the blaze. This shop was an important part of the families small farming and trucking business where Ken repaired and maintained all of their equipment himself. The building, tools, tractors and equipment in the shop were not insured. The loss of well over 100 thousand dollars of tools and equipment alone that had been accumulated over generations of fixing and maintaining trucks and farm machinery. We will never be able to make things whole again, but we strive to come around them as a community and help them in this time and appreciate any support that can be given.
Here is a summary of the morning from the family themselves:
The fire must have started shortly after 3am as Ken left to deliver his morning load of grain shortly before 3am and could not see anything wrong with the shop at that time. He could not smell any smoke either, however since his chemotherapy treatments, he has lost most of his sense of smell.
Around 3:35 Corey noticed an orange hue shining in his bedroom window and looked out to see the shop engulfed in flames. He then quickly woke up the rest of the family in the house. While they called the fire department, Corey ran out to see if he could save the family dog that slept in the shop. Unfortunately, the flames were already burning through the doors, and it was too late.
Shortly after, 2 local volunteer firemen showed up with their gear in their vehicles, and the firetrucks from the local volunteer force showed up about 20 minutes later. The firefighters stayed for about 3 hours ensuring the fire did not spread to other buildings, but the shop and all the contents were lost.
Any support we can show this family in need is greatly appreciated and will go directly to the Harvey Family to help them rebuild the shop in time for winter, and help get them started on purchasing replacement tools.
