Hi, my name is Jasmine and i am currently in Year 7 at Homewood School. I have decided to take a trip to the Volta region of Ghana in July 2027. Why you ask? I have recently learnt about the conditions in this region and thought what can i do to help. I will be travelling with some of my peers who will helping in the construction of the school and its facilities. I however have decided to help in the school teaching and helping the children to grow and develop. I have an interest in teaching when I’m older, but after hearing about Volta, I wanted to help the young people who live here.
The children involved to live in poverty but not like we look at poverty in the UK much worse many families involved to rely on agriculture and fishing for their livelihoods. This isn’t a minimum wage job though it’s far less and at times cannot be relied upon children are often called upon by their families to work from a young age in order to survive children often don’t start school until they are six or seven years old. Even once they start school these children will often miss classes in order to help their families such as at markets, harvesting and/or fishing. The school provisions are basic and resources are limited not the type of schools we take for granted in the UK.
I am therefore asking for a donation to help:
- contribute to the cost of the trip,
- resources for me to teach with and to build on the schools sparse supplies
- some additional treats to take with me for the children, I will beworking with.
However big or small every donation will go a long way to helping improve the lives of these children in Volta, Ghana. Every child matters and every child deserves the best start to life.
