Hi, my name is Rob Moore and I am fundraising for my younger brother's family consisting of Sherley Hurry (my brother's fiancee) and their 2 sons (my 2 nephews), Andrew (5 years old) and Carter (4 years old).
Why???
Because...
My younger brother, Rashan Moore (39 years old) just passed away on Saturday, February 24th 2024 due to cardiac arrest that 6 days later lead to brain death and ended in a full death.
He had been wrestling with major health challenges for the past 5 years starting shortly after having his second child. They started because he got caught off guard by diabetes which attacked his kidneys first.
Before discovering this he was constantly in and out of the hospital and had challenges with fluid retention especially in his legs, shortness of breath, fatigue, and nausea.
While in the process of getting his diabetes under control, his kidneys worsened over time and moved to threaten the sight in his left eye. He had an operation to try and save the sight in that left eye but it was too late.
The diabetes then moved on to attack his right eye after that but he had the same operation as the other eye and was able to catch it fast enough to have a full recovery in that eye.
By this time, he began to really get his diabetes under control but his kidneys were so damaged that he had no choice but to get routine kidney dialysis until he could get a kidney transplant.
With all of this going on with him he was considered disabled and could no longer work until at least getting a kidney transplant.
His days now consisted of raising his boys, taking and picking them up from school, doing routine dialysis, tightly managing his diet to keep his diabetes at bay, routine doctor appointments to make sure he was keeping his health in line to continue to be a candidate for a kidney transplant, and helping take care of the apartment.
Now that is a lot for anyone to handle with or without help and he always wanted to be that man who could do it all and did it all. He didn't always ask for help when he needed it and he never ever complained about doing whatever needed to be done to manage his health and take care of his family.
He seemed to have everything under control until he went to the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall on Monday, February 19th 2024 with his 2 boys and randomly passed out. It took 45 minutes before he was able to be revived and taken to Vassar Hospital.
There he was stabilized, tested positive for Covid, and put in ICU. After a series of constant testing they discovered that he had a cardiac arrest that caused a lot of brain damage and his life was being threatened.
They were able to keep him stable and take good care of his body but the issue was lack of oxygen to the brain for 45 minutes when he passed out at the mall. His brain activity declined day after day until 6 days later he was declared brain dead.
I am so hurt and heart broken and still in shock because no one saw this coming at all. My brother was a great man who was always good to everybody no matter what, took good care of his family, and would do anything for them and anybody.
He did not deserve any of this. He was a good person that was just trying to do his best everyday and do the right things. It was so inspirational on how he handled his health challenges.
He was very strong, never gave up, he never gave in, and never let those challenges stop him from living a full life with his family and it's so sad that something else just came out of nowhere.
So, I'm starting this fundraiser to help support his family with all of the costs needed to give him the funeral that he deserves, clear all of his debts, and help his fiancee get through this tragic event and continue to raise their boys as easily as possible.
Please help, anything helps, and it is all greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your donation :-)
