In 2020, at just 42, I was diagnosed with a rare cancer called grade 2 chondrosarcoma in my right pelvis. I underwent major surgery to remove the tumour, but unexpected complications occurred and were not managed appropriately. As a result, I ultimately required a right hindquarter amputation — losing my leg, hip, and half of my pelvis.

Since then, I’ve lived with permanent disability, extensive lymphedema requiring lifelong compression treatment, and the emotional and physical trauma of a life-changing surgery. Due to the severity of my condition and the fact that my home could not be adapted, I spent 18 months in hospital — including time in an induced coma and on kidney dialysis — and have since been living in a care home.

The hardest part has been being separated from my partner and my two boys, who were just 6 and 11 when this began. They are now 13 and 16 and the last five years have been unimaginably painful for all of us.

Despite everything, I’ve fought every day to rebuild my life. I’m now asking for support to help me continue that journey and regain as much independence, comfort, and stability as possible after years of medical trauma and separation from my family.
