Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Girls Education Initiative of Ghana, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to our Alternate Spring break Ghana group!
Over the Spring Break period, a group of students went abroad to Accra, Ghana through the Alternative Break program at American University. The goal of this trip was to learn a great deal about higher education in Accra and its bridge to social justice. During this trip, we were able to learn directly from such institutions as Ashesi University and its students, as well as have a discussion with the Minister of Education in Accra. Most importantly though, we were able to work with the group GEIG (standing for Girls' Education Initiative of Ghana). GEIG is an organization based in Accra whose mission is to provide support to girls with special needs so that they can access education and professional opportunities. Through our two days of work with GEIG, we were able to learn a great deal about their projects and goals, working closely with one of their groups planning a service project of providing sexual health education and supplies. Though our physical partnership for Spring Break may be over, we the students of the Alternative Break Ghana trip wish to continue to work with GEIG through this GoFundMe page.
With this GoFundMe page, we wish to raise $1500 to help to continue GEIG's mission of providing support to girls in Ghana through academic scholarships, tutoring, learning accomodations, as well as leadership programs that work to empower girls with training in leadership abilities. This fund would work to support the organization going forward as they continue to provide a very necessary service in Accra and beyond. Thank you for taking the time to read about our fundraiser, and we hope that you help us achieve our goal!
