Hi,
Im Colin.
Over a year ago, I bought an old cheapish boat with the intention of doing it up and going fishing.
Once I got started, I was speaking to retired friends and they were really interested in getting involved.
So! I asked them along to help and get involved.
Now 5 of us are involved. ages are 54, 2 at 68, one at 67 and John who is 82.
We each play a part, when and if we want to.
.
We now look out for really cheap small boats that need time, rather than money spent on them.
One thing we have plenty of is, time.
We now have a couple of old boats to work on.
This is where I started to think.
How can we get retired folks together to form their own projects, hobbies or anything else.
I created the oldguys.co.uk web site with an oldish style forum boards. That what people of my generation prefer.
Trying to help retirees to help themselves.
Fix a boat, a classic car, build a hovercraft, model rail or planes.
Absolutely anything.
Some people will be sat at home with like minded people in the next street or same town. How do we get these people together?
My plan is to Help Retired People Get Back Into Life – Support OldGuys.co.uk
OldGuys.co.uk is a simple idea with a powerful purpose:
To give retired men and women a reason to get out of bed, try something new, reconnect with others, and rediscover the joy of doing.
Many people feel lost in retirement — especially after careers, routines, and roles suddenly vanish. Some miss having a purpose. Others just need a nudge, a friendly word, or a shared project to feel like themselves again.
That’s where OldGuys.co.uk comes in.
It will hopefully grow into an online community designed for older people, by older people — a place to chat, find new hobbies, share skills, post local events, and even team up on personal projects. Whether it’s learning to fish, fixing up a classic car, writing memoirs, or just having a laugh in the forums, it all starts with one thing:
Getting involved again.
Why We Need Your Help
We’ve already built the bones of the site, but to reach more people, we need help covering:
✅ Hosting and tech costs
✅ Outreach to local groups and libraries
✅ Printed flyers, posters, and promotion
✅ Developing new features for members
✅ Keeping the site free and welcoming for all
Even a small donation helps.
£5, £10, £20 — it all goes toward giving someone a reason to feel connected again.
Be Part of the Solution
If you’ve ever seen a mate withdraw after retirement — or felt that way yourself — you’ll know how much it matters to have a place where you’re understood, needed, and encouraged.
Help us keep this idea going. Help us give more retired people a reason to say,
“What’ll I do today? Let’s find out.”
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.
