Help my family have a house in the refugee camp
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hanan and I’m fundraising for my family back home to be able to continue construction on our house. My family are Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon. The situation in Lebanon is extremely unsafe due to the ongoing war in the area. My siblings and I grew up in Lebanon in a Palestinian refugee camp called Shatila. However, as the living conditions in Shatila are dire, my parents decided to move out of the camp for the sake of improving our lives. While this was the right decision to make, the reality stands that living outside of the refugee camp is much more expensive. Their lives are already threatened by the extreme danger they face on a daily basis due to the war, but to make matters worse none of my family members back home are permanently employed and they rely heavily on occasional, short-term, job opportunities and the money my sister and I seldom send whenever we can afford to. They constantly struggle to pay rent and make ends meet. My sister, Farah, and I are fortunate enough to be living abroad (Farah is a film student at DocNomads in Hungary and I’m working as a support teacher with children with special mental and social needs), however our parents and two brothers remain in Lebanon. We worry about them constantly and try our very best to help in any way we can, hence this fundraising campaign. As their situation continues to deteriorate, they have decided to move back to the refugee camp, but they are unable to do so at the moment due to the current condition of the house they have there. Therefore, my sister and I have decided to step-in and fundraise to help them finish the construction of the house in order to be able to move in and no longer have to worry about the incredibly expensive rent, and be able to afford necessities. The living conditions in the camp continue to be inadequate, but moving back seems to be the best option they have at the moment.
My family have always been involved in charitable work - my parents are the founders of a scout group, Yaabad scout, which they started as a way to give back to the community and create chances which children and teens otherwise might not have the opportunity to have. The work we do at the scout has helped uncountable people in various ways, whether it be with their daily struggles - like collecting donations to buy packages of essentials to give to poor families - or with realising future dreams - like advocating for gifted youth to be able to fund their higher studies. The scout group also offered support to those affected by the ongoing war through fundraising for essentials and shelter, but also conducting art workshops with children to aid with their mental health. We have opened our home for numerous people from all around the world, and created long-lasting relationships. The generosity of my family reaches way further than just our community. Please help my family live a better life, which they very much deserve. They have been struggling for so long now to the point where this fundraising campaign is our last resort. Whatever you can help with will make a huge difference, please donate. Thank you very much.
