My father Kevin Jennings has suffered severe brain injury, aphasia (loss of ability to understand and express speech), muscle atrophy, and paralysis in his right arm and hand, after being tragically shot in the head in 1997; months before my younger sister was born.
Since then, he’s taught himself to do every thing with his left hand, including eating, writing, brushing his teeth, washing his hands etc. He enjoys reading, listening to music, and most importantly writing. As this is the best and easiest way for him to communicate his needs, and express emotion.
Kevin is a strong man who refuses to be pitied, and deeply yearns to be self sufficient. However, there’s only so much he can do on his own; everyone has their breaking point. This past Father’s Day, he told me the person who shot him “killed him slow”. He’s come to feel hopeless, due to an ongoing lack of resources for physical rehabilitation, and two decades of unstable housing.
The money raised will go to a number of necessities my father desperately needs:
A new wheelchair (his current one is damaged, and cannot support his legs) ✅
Adaptive furniture
Speech therapy
Physical therapy
Medical care and equipment
Notebooks✅
Reading and learning materials✅
Housing and transportation
If you are unable to donate, any leads to medical resources are appreciated!!
